Monthly Seasons
Is A Lack Of Hormones Wreaking Havoc In Your Life?
I was well into motherhood before I understood more clearly how my cycle works and how to be in harmony with it.
For some reason, probably comments heard here and there, I thought when I felt off kilter and overboard emotionally, it was hormones.
This was the beginning of my understanding.
Did you know that when there’s not a baby on the way, your hormones actually leave, which signals your body to flush the system?
When our hormones leave, we feel off.
The usual energy we feel has ‘left the building’.
Many times I’ve felt off, low, and slow.
I kept wondering, “What in the heck is wrong with me?”
Boy was I excited to find that nothing was wrong with me.
How I was feeling was part of the ‘monthly season’ I was in at the time.
Look At Each Week In Your Cycle
If you look at each week in your cycle as a season it becomes clearer.
When I’m on my period I feel tired, slow, and introverted so I just want to stay home, snuggle up with a good book, and hibernate for a while.
This is much like a real winter.
The week after winter is over, it’s spring and I feel I’m rising up again.
My energy is coming back and life doesn’t look so bleak any more.
The following week is summer and I still have great energy.
It’s not quite as high as spring but it’s still good.
Next is fall. If there’s no ‘bun in the oven’ your hormones leave you, signaling to your body to cleanse out for a new cycle.
This Is Very Helpful
I write each season on my planner.
When I’m scheduling activities I avoid loading up fall and winter with a heavy schedule.
I’ll invite my daughter’s friends over in the ‘spring’ and the ‘summer’ when it’s fun for me to double the population at our house! Lol
Another great thing I do is to work hard like an ant during the spring, summer, and part of the fall week.
Because then I can rest during winter. I’m able to automate many things in my business so that I can take a break from that.
Some Things That Have To Be Done No Matter What
Every week Sarah has gymnastics practice so we’re on the road heading to practice twice a week.
During ‘winter’ I’ll let Sarah know that I’m going to sit in the car during practice. Sometimes I watch how to paint videos or I’ll read a book.
It’s always something that I enjoy and find restful.
One thing I like to have done ahead of ‘fall’ and ‘winter’ is the grocery shopping.
If I have it done before ‘winter’ hits then I don’t have to stop at the store on the way home from practice.
Also when it was possible I would let James put the girls to bed and I would go to bed early myself.
Take Care Of Yourself
Remember to take care of yourself mentally and emotionally during the fall and the winter.
Taking care of yourself during summer and spring are important too, but during fall and winter you need a little more tlc.
These different proactive steps help to maximize the season I’m in.
During the high energy of spring I like to do extra house projects, volunteer to bring the dinner to teen girls group, or host our Life Group.
I hope this is making sense to you and that this info is as helpful for you as it was for me.
Beware Of The Lies
Another thing to remember is that the enemy will try to lie to you during the down times of your cycle.
In 1 Peter 5:8&9 it says,
“Be well balanced and always alert, because your enemy, the devil, roams around incessantly like a roaring lion looking for its prey to devour.
9) Take a decisive stand against him and resist his every attack with strong, vigorous faith.”
He will try to get you to doubt yourself and tell you how incompetent you are.
It’s all lies, and when I understand my monthly seasons then I’m able to recognize the lie because I know what is going on in my body and with my emotions.
Now I’m better equipped to fend off the lie that I’m not enough or that something is wrong with me.
Remember This
Comparison is always a source of unhappiness.
It’s eye opening to realize that I can be very down on myself because I’m comparing how I feel in ‘winter’ (not worth beans) with how another woman is during her ‘spring’ (she’s so accomplished).
When I see it for what it is then I can say, “Nope nothing wrong here.
It’s my cycle. It ebbs and flows and I’m learning to flow with it”.
I get to love myself and declare “I’m blessed to be a woman”.
This was hard for me before.
Go Deeper By Reading This Book
I gained all this understanding from reading a book my sister gave to me.
If you’d like to know more or have a deeper explanation of the the seasons in your cycle, I highly recommend reading the book Becoming Yourself by Stasi Eldredge.
She goes into this at a much deeper level, and there are many other awesome things in her book.
