Your Feisty Life stems from my dreams to become a mom.  In a high school class, we were asked to choose a profession to pursue after high school. Openly stating that I wanted to be a mom, I was told that’s not an option to just be a mom. Now looking back on that memory, 17 years into motherhood myself, I believe there should be a professional mom option.

I’m currently living my dream on a cattle ranch in Colorado with my husband James and our five girls; Grace, Naomi, Faith, Sarah and Rachel. This motherhood thing was way more than I ever anticipated! Having 3 siblings myself, I enjoyed growing up in a big family and wanted four kids too. However, after our second daughter, Naomi arrived, and I had one kid for each hand I thought two was plenty! I continued working my job with two kiddos. My honey wanted a boy. All I had to do was look at a pair of pants and I was pregnant. It wasn’t long before #3 was on her way. We had 3 girls in 3 ½ years.  I was one busy mama. I quit my job 2 months before Faith, our 3rd, was born. Now I was a full-time mom! They kept me hoppin! Our Sarah was born 2 ½ years after Faith and then Rachel, our sweet surprise came 3 ½ years after Sarah. We have 5 girls now in the span of 9 years.

Ranching is a great life and one we enjoy raising our girls in. They all ride horses and like working the cattle. Each season on the ranch is our favorite because it’s the one we’re in, whether its new calves born in the spring or gathering pairs off the mountain in the fall. It’s one big adventure enjoyed by us all.

It’s been an incredible journey of growth.  Even though I’m living my dream, things haven’t always gone according to plan. Life happens. We did what we had to do to make ends meet.  James left the ranch for a couple of years to work at a local coal mine, so we could get our finances in order. In 2010 we lost his dad in a hunting accident. We were back at the ranch at that point to help his mom through the tough times ahead.

This life as a mom has left me feeling small and weak at times. That’s why I love the word feisty because it refers to someone, typically one who is small or weak, who is lively, determined, and courageous.  Even when I’ve felt small or weak, through the love of God, family and friends I’ve come ‘alive’ again, full of determination and courage to live a life that glorifies God.
